The 10-mile ice jam on the Jefferson River has loosened and a visible line of water is coursing through the river’s main channel near Silver Star, authorities said Friday.
Warm weather helped melt some of the ice in the middle of the current though large chunks remain packed against the banks, according to Madison County Disaster and Emergency Service’s Steve DiGiovanna.
DiGiovanna said the flood watches for the Jefferson Acres residential subdivision have been lifted.
“Right now it looks pretty manageable,” DiGiovanna said Friday afternoon. “But you never know; something could break loose and jam right back up.”
The jam had flooded and isolated homes in the subdivision and closed Hell’s Canyon Road.
